You made some good points here, but you do realize the point they made with the whole 'meet God' scene was to establish that Sybok was wrong and had gotten a lot of people in danger by bringing them there.

Sorry to stifle your flair--it's just that every time I look up a video of this scene and the chase sequence in the film's end, I see about 3 dozen comments from people who seem to have failed to grasp this point (I only look at the vids anyway in the event someone tried adding effects to it or somehow got ahold of some of the material deleted from the chase sequence besides the rockman footage--I hope they'll eventually release some of that deleted material).

Hmmm, I actually liked Star Trek V, but for different reasons. From a philosophical stand point, I did not see it as pointing to say that there is no god or that why God does this or why God does that. There are many reasons why that is so, but I am not here to debate religion. I just never thought about it that way. However, I think we should seek wisdom in everything, and I found some in V. Sybok, the misunderstood fanatic is to me a symbol of blind pride. To you it may be a symbol of religion, but fanaticism isn't unique to religion, although me being a Christian myself, have found plenty of fanaticism in religion as well in other things, for example: nazism. I don't like the term "free-thinker" as really a free thinker. I've encountered many atheists and theists alike who are equally close-minded. I really find no difference between the two. I don't think religion or a lack thereof constitutes free-thinking at all. Honestly, I work for the Census Bureau, if I were to call your house to conduct a mandatory interview, would you refuse? Why? Even if it was mandated by law? Even if we gave you ample amounts of evidences to show that this is a legitimate survey and that it is mandatory? Think about it. Even to a person who is very religious and seemingly ignorant, do you really presume that way? Is that really free-thinking. That is why I liked Star Trek, it wasn't about atheism, theism, it was about wisdom and intelligence. If it were about atheism, then I would probably not have liked it, because it would push a theme in which I am against, if it were about religion, then you would have hated it as well. Meanwhile we both put the movie to fit it within our views to see how it would hold up. The answer is still the same: we both see our viewpoints as wise, so therefore, we can see how this could support both our views.

Fan of Linda Fetters now the third Mrs. Ken Howard who was the cat lady who is in a fight with Kirk in the bar. This film could of been improved where Sybok shows Kirk a Earth humanoid girlfriend name Julie Elizabeth Marshall played by Linda with medium blonde color hair and dark brown eyes leaving for Starfleet which Kirk later regrets.

I agree and enjoyed your article. The only thing I take issue with is this: "If you want more realism, better special effects and better dialogue then look no further than the recent Star Trek reboot..."

Abrams's reboot s terrible and nothing could be further from real Trek. It should not be applauded in ANY way. It was simple, unimaginative, and betrayed the original characters and ideas in almost every way.
