Actually, I think that makes sense about atheism and a single focus. While there are atheist organizations usually for political reasons, atheism by itself is simply a description. One doesn't really choose atheism it just happens--you lose faith. Then when you do everyone asks you to justify it so then you have to get into theology, apologetics, and even science (because of intelligent design) for fanciful arguments where commonsense should prevail. So usually there are atheist-humanists, atheist-skeptics, etc where atheism is combined with another belief system or interest. I have to say, I think skepticism is much more interesting then always talking about atheism and Christians also partake in skeptical thinking when it comes to certain scams or odd beliefs.

Postman - just to clarify what I believe Weston meant was that "Atheists" per se are a one-trick pony in terms of their sceptical focus i.e. God.

"Sceptics/Skeptics", on the other hand, have a far broader focus, including things like alternative medicine, organic foods, paranormal claims, conspiracy theories etc.

Atheism and Scepticism often overlap, but are not synonymous.

Though, perhaps I misunderstood his point.

"WESTON: I am skeptical of Atheists. Atheists tend to be right, but usually for the wrong reasons. They’ll go with you against religion, but turn the topic to alternative medicine or organic foods and you’ve lost them."

I fully understand that what I'm about to say is anecdotal, but I'm an atheist and I certainly don't beleive any of that other woo; nor do I know any atheists who do. In my experience, atheists tend to be skeptics as well. It would be pretty difficult to be one and not the other, I should think.

On a lighter note - I quite enjoy the strip.

Weston can answer but I would suspect from my own experience it could be a spam issue. Even with a plug-in that takes out known spam there are individuals that leave an ambiguous message in order to do SEO work and provide a link to their site. I get them all the time and have to delete them.

For awhile I was moderating comments instead of allowing them to post automatically. The problem comes and goes.

Weston: Why do we now have to sign in/register etc. on your `ape, not monkey' website in order to comment?
