Unlike 2007 I did not archive my Freethunk Cartoon series for 2008. The reasons were many, but much of it had to do with how busy I was and financially speaking this last year was brutal--not just on me, but a lot of people in this country. I enjoy creating material for Freethunk but this site does not bring in the money to to pay for ongoing material unlike some other site projects I've worked on. Maybe I need to market it differently, maybe the market isn't even there yet--I'm not sure. I knew that archiving didn't make sense this year because I just didn't have the time to dedicate to doing as many toons as I previously did. The good news is that I'm starting to see young artists do some blatantly atheistic cartoon humor. Even if their work isn't at a professional level yet (and that's subjective to begin with) at least people are starting to take notice of the potential. Again, I say the next step comes down to building characters--grant money anyone? To build some atheist comic strip or comicbook series? Well, I don't want to get too down. We're living through some hard times. People are losing their homes, their jobs and unfortunately instead of using common sense, they'll probably be turning to their religion for answerst. Dare I suggest that the problem may be that they voted for one of the most "Christianized" presidents of modern times and he is an abysmal failure. Forget the false comforts of prayer and take some time to laugh, get a little angry and then go back to tackling your problems. I do try to remain optimistic that hard work will bring results, not millions of dollars but maybe enough money to keep everyone under a roof with enough to eat. I hope everyone can start fresh in The New Year and recover what was lost and then move beyond all the damage.
