Ban Porn on Superbowl Sunday

The Triple-X Church, not to be confused with what sounds like a “really fun church,” is at it again bringing attention to porn on Superbowl Sunday. The “game-plan” according to KTVU.com which covers the Bay Area in California, is for churches to deliver sermons on the evils of porn. But the campaign goes further than the Bay Area. Apparently 300 churches have signed on for the national campaign. That’s a lot of Superbowl Sunday smut.

Triple-X Church has enlisted the help of current and former NFL players who have had problems with pornography or have casually perused pornography. Suffice to say, these are Christian football players giving testimony.

What a day of guilt this is going to turn into. If you don’t attend church, Superbowl Sunday is a church event. Most churches find a way to get a big screen TV or projector and all the fans ditch their Sunday best for casual clothes. Then they get into the game–it’s a testosterone event (sorry, I don’t mean to exclude the ladies as I know you’re jumping on the bandwagon too). But why burden men with porn guilt on one of their biggest holidays?

If you’ve seen the documentary film on Triple-X Church you may get some understanding as to their tactics. They want to minister outside the church and they even attend porn events with their own Christian booth (I really missed out on the good ministries).

Here’s my advice if you’re feeling guilty about porn on Superbowl Sunday. First evaluate if it is a real addiction. If it is, seek therapy and not God. Otherwise, feel free to enjoy sexual entertainment as long as it doesn’t consume your life. An addiction is an addiction, we understand that, but porn is a multi-billion dollar industry–we’re not all affected. Also, be respectful of your spouse if they don’t like it. To me it’s similar if your wife doesn’t like watching sports or gross horror movies. She doesn’t have to be in the same room. However, some couples like watching porn together. I am not so lucky, though, my unofficial wife of 14 years is hardly prude. Sometimes you have to compromise and find a balance.
