The only difference between Joyce Meyer and her fellow male evangelists is that she proves a woman can be just as good at making money using “God” as a man. This in a fundie atmosphere where women are generally asked to be subservient or at least share their ministry name with a man.
Republican Charles Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee is investigating six ministries including Meyer’s. According to NewsOk.com, we’re not privy to all of the discrepancies that have been questioned, but Joyce Meyer Ministries is busy at work enacting internal reforms (translation: covering their asses).
Grassley started the inquiry because he was “disturbed by reports about preachers living lavishly while their tax-exempt churches escaped scrutiny.” Joyce Meyer Ministries and Benny Hinn Ministries have cooperated and both have been actively cleaning house. The 4 remaining ministries have not been willing to do the same. They are: Randy and Paula White of Without Walls International Church, Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland of Kenneth Copeland Ministries and Creflo and Taffi Dollar of World Changers Church International.
Among the charges that have been revealed are possible discrepancies between what are for-profit businesses and what are non-profit entities owned by the ministries and a crackdown on whistle-blowers.
