‘The Moment After’ and Sequel, More Rapture Porn

I’ve been using a slang form of the word porn to not refer to videos of people having sex, but any material that feeds a certain kind of lust. There is a whole market dedicated to end times lust that makes millions of dollars which I call “rapture porn.” This week ChristianCinema.com has a special reduced price on The Moment After and The Moment After 2 (which apparently is the moment after the moment after). Yes, it is more rapture porn.

In the original The Moment After, two FBI agents investigate missing people because they were taken by God (can God be accused as a kidnapper?). This includes mothers with missing babies because I guess babies don’t have to make an intellectual decision to weigh the evidence for and against Christ–they get a free pass (again, an argument for that abortion would save souls if the unborn can’t be damned).

David A.R. White makes yet another appearance in this Christian movie as he continues to establish himself as a Christian B-movie actor. He plays agent Adam Riley who soon finds the truth. There also seems to be a clean-cut end time prophet (weren’t the prophets in the Bible all filthy and homeless, it’s good we clean people up for modern acceptability). Per ChristianCinema.com, “This powerful evangelistic suspense thriller will keep you at the edge of your seat. Don’t miss it!”

The funniest part of this trailer is a guy who’s wife has been raptured and it looks like he has to stop the car because she was driving (God’s too stupid to rapture people safely). He gets out of the car and yells, “Where did you go?” I was laughing, I’m sorry. I expected to hear, “Up here, honey–you heathen!

But we’re not done yet. We have the sequel called The Moment After 2: The Awakening (Hey, I just woke up and realized this is all a bunch of crap). So it looks like our hero former FBI Agent Adam Riley is now a prisoner, but due to another prisoner he’s with he escapes and has to be tracked down like the Christian dog he is. The trailer suggest more action and less disappearing with punches being thrown and bullets being shot. I think ChristianCinema’s description is more exciting than the actual movie: “Global Alliance leader Commander Fredericks (Monte Perlin) has forced Adam’s former partner Charles Baker (Kevin Downes) to hunt them down while a ragtag militia, led by “Captain” Jackson (Lonnie Colon), spy on them for their own gain. As events lead to an explosive confrontation, all will be forced to an awakening of the real struggle… for their very souls.”

What makes the end times porn market so wonderful for the producers of this nonsense is that it can go on forever. Christians won’t set a date for the apocalypse or even an approximate year and those who have tried have looked like idiots. With no date all they keep saying is, the end is near. And they’ve been saying that since the time of Christ. I’m expecting to see better and better end times action movies with Die Hard like production values. Bruce Willis versus the anti-Christ, now I’d pay to see that.
