| AMISH FICTION - Do the Amish shop online? |
When I get spammed by Christian sites I always visit to see what they're up to since their concern is not The Almighty but The Almighty Dollar. Sure they'll tell you their running a Christian Business but it is interesting how when I was growing up Christian Bookstores were closed on Sundays to respect the sabbath (which is debatable I admit) and in general to respect churchgoers who are not encouraged to go to the mall but to spend time with their fellow parishioners and their families.
Now we have, of all things, "Amish Fiction." I was under the impression that The Amish refused to use modern technology. So who are they selling these books to? And if the authors are Amish themselves are they using modern digital media software to print the books or are they using a hand-operated printing press with no electricity. I truly am confused. My only guess is that these authors are not Amish but exploiting The Amish for the sake of fiction. There is still an idealism about "the old ways" and how they were better for morals and keeping you sin free. Even though generally speaking, society has become less violent, more tolerant of minorities, and teen pregnancy is down. |
